The Laredo Rifle and Pistol Club, Webb County 4H clubs, and the Texas Youth Hunting Program partnered up and created a unique opportunity for youth who are interested in shooting and quality outdoor experiences.

Through the county 4H club network, interested youth are recruited into a basic shooting sports program which is sponsored by the Laredo Rifle and Pistol Club. These kids meet on Saturdays at the Laredo Rifle and Pistol Club and, throughout the summer, go through a basic rifle course which is conducted by National Rifle Association certified Rifle Instructors. This course is designed for anyone interested in shooting whether they are experienced shooters or not. It begins with the basics with safety being emphasized throughout.

Once the youth demonstrate the ability to safely handle a firearm and shoot proficiently, they are given the opportunity to move up from .22’s to a larger caliber rifle. We have several .243’s with scopes which they are instructed in.

Through the Texas Youth Hunting Program, those youngsters who are interested, are given the opportunity to go on a hunt in the local area. These are usually a doe hunt but the landowners usually allow the kids to harvest Javalina, wild hogs and predators. These hunts are on the weekends from mid October through mid February. The youth must be accompanied by one of his/her parents or legal guardians.

All youth hunters are required to successfully complete the Texas Hunters Safety Course which will be sponsored by the Texas Youth Hunting Program. There will be no charge for the course to youth who have been active in the shooting sports program.
